Local Stars of the Week: October 1st – 7th

Daniel Jones – Giants

Daniel Jones put up some phenomenal numbers as the Giants picked up their first win of the year. After dropping three straight, New York had to come up big to save their season from slipping out of control. Jones threw for over 400 yards, the 5th time in his career he’s thrown for 300+ in a game and first time since his rookie season. His two TD passes helped earn him a QB rating of 108.5 as Big Blue picked up a win in Overtime against the New Orleans Saints.

Zach Wilson – Jets

Zach Wilson is on the board! After four weeks, the Jets rookie QB picked up his first win, shaking off a pair of poor performances in the early season. Wilson’s 21/34 passing helped the Jets keep pace with a talented Tennessee Titans team, but it was a late push that saw the Jets score two touchdowns in the 4th quarter, ultimately leading to Overtime. In the extra period, Wilson and the Jets drove 70 yards to set up a game-winning field goal for a 27-24 win and an improvement to 1-3.

Aaron Judge – Yankees

A walkoff win sent the Yankees to the postseason, as they held off the AL-leading Tampa Bay Rays to avoid what could have been a season-threatening sweep. Judge recorded a RBI in each of the Yankees’ last three wins of the year, and with the Wild Card race decided by a single game, his contributions were key in sending the Bombers to the postseason. The Yankees may not be threatening the top AL teams in October, but Judge and company certainly mean business.

Matthews Tejeda – Queensboro FC II

A blowout win for Queensboro FC saw them crowned division champions, and it was a flurry of scoring from Matthews Tejeda to lead the way. Tejeda was one of two players to score a hat trick in a 12-0 win over Morris Elite. Even with an insurmountable lead, the striker was dancing past defenders and into the box, adding to the QBFC tally. With the playoffs coming up, QBFC will again be looking to their unstoppable offense and players like Tejeda to make a difference.
