Sunnyside Shines brings self-care to the neighborhood
Sunnyside residents looking for a little rest, relaxation and pampering this summer have plenty of opportunities to treat themselves during the 2026 Sunnyside Self-Care Fest.
Organized by the Sunnyside Shines Business Improvement District, the annual celebration highlights local beauty, wellness and personal-care businesses while encouraging residents to shop locally.
The 2026 Self-Care Fest runs through August 18, with participating businesses offering special promotions and discounts on services. Residents can take advantage of the offers while discovering some of the neighborhood businesses that help make Sunnyside a vibrant place to live, work and visit.
“Self-care is an important part of maintaining a healthy and connected community, and we are excited to give Sunnyside residents an opportunity to take some time for themselves while supporting the local businesses that make our neighborhood special,” said Dirk McCall de Palomá, Executive Director of Sunnyside Shines. “The Self-Care Fest is a great way to discover new businesses, enjoy special offers and experience the incredible range of services available right here in Sunnyside.”
“From beauty and wellness to fitness and relaxation, Sunnyside has so many businesses that help residents feel their best,” said Evelyn Chango, Deputy Director of Sunnyside Shines. “We want Self-Care Fest to be a fun reminder that taking care of yourself can also mean supporting your neighbors and the small businesses that are such an important part of our community.”
Among the participating businesses is Barbell Fitness, 46-12 Queens Blvd., where John said the festival is a natural fit for a neighborhood that values health and wellness.
“Taking care of yourself goes beyond one particular workout or service. It’s about creating healthy habits and making wellness part of your everyday life,” said John, a trainer at Barbell Fitness, who is offering a $40 OFF sale when you buy a pack of 6 training sessions during Self-Care Fest. “Self-Care Fest is a great opportunity to introduce more people to the local businesses that can help them reach their health and wellness goals,” he added.
At Go Natural Health Foods & Juice Bar, 45-03 Queens Blvd., owner Phil said the event provides another way for residents to focus on their overall well-being.
“We believe that feeling good starts from the inside out,” said Phil. “Sunnyside has an incredible community of people who care about their health, and Self-Care Fest gives local businesses an opportunity to come together and remind everyone that wellness should be something you make time for.”
A representative from Riam Beauty Studio, 40-17 48th Ave., said the festival is also an opportunity for customers to step away from their busy routines.
“Life in New York can move very quickly, so it is important to give yourself permission to slow down and take care of yourself,” the representative said. “We are excited to be part of an event that encourages people to do just that while supporting local businesses.”
A representative from Greenpoint Beauty Nails & Spa Corp., 42-20 Greenpoint Ave., echoed that sentiment, noting that self-care can be as simple as making time for a treatment that helps someone feel refreshed.
“Self-care is about making yourself a priority, even if it is just for an hour,” the representative said. “We are happy to participate in Self-Care Fest and welcome members of the Sunnyside community into our business.”
The festival is part of Sunnyside Shines’ broader mission to strengthen the neighborhood’s commercial district and promote its locally owned businesses. The BID regularly organizes community events, promotions and programs designed to bring residents and businesses together.
For residents, the Self-Care Fest offers more than an opportunity to save money on a beauty or wellness appointment. It is also a chance to support the entrepreneurs and small businesses that contribute to Sunnyside’s distinctive character.
With summer winding down, Sunnyside Shines is encouraging residents to make time for themselves while exploring the businesses in their own backyard. Whether it is a workout, healthy food, beauty treatment or wellness service, the 2026 Self-Care Fest offers plenty of ways to recharge while keeping local dollars in the community.
