Dajuan Williams is facing murder and weapons charges. The bullet fired by Williams was intended for a rival gang member.
“Once again, the combination of guns and gangs has devastated a family and stunned a community,” said Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz. “The defendant is charged with a truly senseless crime, another tragic reason why we need to get guns off our streets.”
According to the charges, Guedelia Vallinas was shot in the head on March 12 at 8:14 p.m. as she was walking on 48th Street at Broadway, a few blocks from the Woodside Houses, where both she and Williams lived.
The defendant and an accomplice fired at least five shots. Vallinas was struck once and was taken to a nearby Hospital, where she was pronounced dead about two hours later.
Williams was being held without bail prior to a return to court this week. He is facing 25 years to life in prison if convicted.
